Trip around the Block

Months ago, we had planned to go to Ireland for a wedding, which was supposed to be today. It’s kind of a bummer to be stuck at home when we had planned to celebrate and be on vacation, but I feel so lucky and thankful for my health and life situation. Now, what has been difficult for me is to stop reading every news article about COVID 19 and thinking about all of the suffering and helplessness that this situation has caused. It seems like more than ever, I need a vacation; so what are you doing to bring that excitement and fun distraction into your lives?

Among all of our projects, cooking, and gardening, our walks have become central to our lives, and it is something that I’ve tried to treat as our own micro vacations. Many people in San Francisco have put stuffed animals in their windows for kids to count or other kind messages, but now that it’s spring, there are also flowers and new growth everywhere. Occasionally when we go for our walk, I bring my camera and act like a tourist in my own neighborhood – trying to absorb the scenery around me and notice the new things, just like being on vacation.

So here are some of the sights and scenes from our most recent trips:

This was actually in our garden – a little excitement in our own backyard!
